A Jam Packed Event – Literally
FoodCycles had a booth at last Saturday’s Seedy Saturday 2009 (Feb 28 @ The Stop’s Green Barn here in Toronto, ON) and we had a splendid time reconnecting with old friends and new! It was fantastic! David Wild, one of our board members and coordinators had a chance to explore – seeing the Seed Exchange and the new greenhouse there. “It was quite a high tech system,” stated David.
When I walked in there I had to admit that I was impressed with the tall ceilings – extending 30-40 ft high by my rough guess. The main hall where all the seed selling was going on however was pretty narrow and packed full. When I got there at 3:30 PM it was so packed I could barely get through or play my flute. Whew! It didn’t die down until 5-6 PM when the show was almost over.

I told Amanda, one of the staff from the STOP that they needed to build some additional catwalks to look down into the main area. That would have made things real spiffy.

We met a lot of wonderfully enthusiastic and passionate people – people who loved growing food and just plain old food. Some of them even signed up for more information and to be volunteers once the greenhouses are completely ready and we get the construction on the road.
Overall I’d say the day was a splendid success.
PS. If anyone has time (hint hint) and graphic design skills we’d gladly welcome some generous expert improvement of our last minute display.
