Will Allen on the importance of food – except to him it’s more than food – it’s really about life
Will Allen, the inspiration for FoodCycles recently released his Good Food Manifesto for America. Will has expressed interest in coming back to Toronto and we’ll definitely be bringing this up at our meeting with Sandy Houston, President of the Metcalf Foundation. In fact Metcalf sponsored Will Allen’s first visit (that sparked everything) in 2006/2007.
“Growing Power is a national nonprofit organization and land trust supporting people from diverse backgrounds, and the environments in which they live, by helping to provide equal access to healthy, high-quality, safe and affordable food for people in all communities. Growing Power implements this mission by providing hands-on training, on-the-ground demonstration, outreach and technical assistance through the development of Community Food Systems that help people grow, process, market and distribute food in a sustainable manner.” (Via Simple, Good and Tasty)
At some point, FoodCycles will work with Growing Power to become an international partner and regional training centre as part of our education efforts and desire to bring good food and social justice to communities in Toronto and beyond.
Lets work together friends to make a real difference and history! Toronto is a growing hot bed for the urban agriculture movement in Ontario. As one of the vanguard we can help bring food and community back into the minds of citizens, acting as ambassadors for farmers everywhere.
It can be a tough journey at times and like I always say, the knife is sharper when honed by the whetstone of adversity. Nothing good ever happens without a challenge to overcome.
