A new study has found that some fruits and veggies are 2 times better at getting water into your body than a glass of water – kind of like Gatorade without the packaging, the extra tap water, etc. The top one is watermelon, followed by cucumber and celery. The beauty is that they also have vitamins, minerals and sugar which makes them better at getting you back in action when working hard – on the sports field or on the farm (especially lutein and zeaxanthin). FoodCycles is growing plenty of cucumbers and watermelons on the outdoor field and they’re doing pretty well. Hopefully you’ll all have a chance to try some in the next little while!
Some Fruit And Vegetables Can Hydrate You More Than A Glass Of Water: “Water-rich fruit and vegetables act like a two-in-one meal and drink, providing the mineral salts, natural sugars, amino acids and vitamins that are lost in exercise. The research, carried out at the University of Aberdeen Medical School, found this combination helped hydrate people more effectively than water or even sports drinks.”
