Waterlife, the movie featuring music by Gord Downie.
Water, food and shelter are the things everyone needs for life. The 5 Great Lakes touch 35 million people in North America. It’s the last large fresh water source in the world and there’s a lot at risk. If we’re going to fix the food system we need to fix our water as well. Without clean water how can we have clean food and the other way around?
It takes several tonnes of water to grow a ton of wheat, corn or soy — when you eat and ship that food, you are eating and shipping water too (1 lb of bread takes 2300 cups of water [580 L]). At the same time conventional factory farming using high powered, gas made pesticides and fertilizers run off into lakes and streams poisoning them, people and animals at the same time.
In the cycle of food let us not forget earth, water and seed.
