Community Garden Coordinator
(Full-time, permanent position)

The Stop Community Food Centre uses food and food access as a tool for community development in the Davenport West and Wychwood Heights neighbourhoods of Toronto. The Community Garden Coordinator works as a member of the urban agriculture team to engage community members to participate in community gardening in order to improve participants’ access to healthy food, reduce social isolation, and increase knowledge about how to grow food.
Responsibilities:
· Develop and coordinate creative garden-based programs at Earlscourt Park and Hillcrest Park Community Gardens: garden sessions, educational workshops and special events for gardeners and the broader community
· Supervise seasonal staff, students and volunteers in maintaining The Stop’s community gardens at Earlscourt Park, 1884 Davenport and Hillcrest Park
· Work with volunteers and other urban agriculture staff to develop garden plans and manage seedling production
· Maintain compost systems at Earlscourt, Hillcrest and off-season at the Green Barn
· Outreach to broader community to involve community organizations, schools and community members in garden projects
· Participate in and contribute to urban agriculture networks
· Carry out administrative duties related to program coordination: program planning and evaluation, proposal writing and reports
Qualifications:
· Minimum of three years program coordination experience
· University degree or college certificate in a related field, or equivalent experience
· Excellent knowledge of organic gardening and garden planning
· Commitment to social justice and knowledge of food system issues
· Ability to train, supervise and support volunteers, students and part-time, seasonal staff
· Excellent interpersonal skills
· Demonstrated ability to work with and show sensitivity to those who experience poverty/marginalization and experience working with a diverse community (people of different ages, abilities and cultural backgrounds)
· Experience working with children an asset
· Ability to work independently and as part of a team
· Ability to speak a language relevant to the neighbourhood is an asset
Salary: $20.81 per hour
Hours: 37.5 hours/week
